We took a day trip to Mendocino and Fort Bragg today. The pictures don't do it justice-it was so beautiful! Since all of my cameras have died, I'm down to taking pictures with my iphone. At least my Dad got some great shots, so I'll be able to post more in a few days.
The surf was huge, and after a few minutes, Danny got brave and wanted to run around on the beach. We were at Sea Glass Beach in Fort Bragg when I finally managed to catch him smiling on camera! He loved looking for the different colored glass, and we have quite a few new pieces to add to our collection.
Then we grabbed lunch and headed down the Pacific Coast Highway to Mendocino...it's an adorable small village-full of artists and picket fences. In fact, it looks so much like New England that Murder, She Wrote was filmed there! I dragged my parents on a pilgrimage around the town to see all the sites from the show (I even made my Dad take a picture of Jessica's house!)
On the way home, we passed through a second growth Redwood forest-the trees were so tall, I can't imagine what the older trees must look like-since they are farther north in California, we'll have to see them on a weekend trip. It's a bit too far for a day's drive.
Tomorrow we're playing the tourists some more and heading for Gold Country and a town with 20 bookstores! Right up our alley :)
Here's the best shot of the coast from my phone...I promise, better pictures to come!
